Hi Tracey There are no strict rules really. If your dog is being fed 3 times per day, then he needs to be walked at least 3 times per day. A puppy requires more shorter but more frequent walks. A 14 week old pup for instance would need to urinate approximately every 3 hours. It helps to break the walk routine up by taking the puppy to a different place for a different ammount of time eg. On a weekend. Just a quick note on feeding and walking. A dogs digestive system is much quicker than ours, so usually if you take the dog out before a meal, then feed him when you get back, by the time he is ready for the next walk, he will also be ready to go to the toilet. I would therefore aim to take your pup out at least for 3, 20 minute walks and also allow him time out in the garden every couple or so hours. As he gets older the walk time needs to increase. Retreivers like to carry something when they walk, such as a ballor rubber toy.
